What is it? |
Cetyl Esters refer to a mixture of esters derived from saturated fatty alcohols (typically C14 to C18) and saturated fatty acids (typically C14 to C18). It is a waxy solid, often used to impart a smooth feel to cosmetic products.
Historically, similar compounds were sourced from spermaceti (from sperm whales). However, modern Cetyl Esters are produced through the esterification of plant-derived fatty alcohols and fatty acids, commonly from sources like palm or coconut oil, or they can be synthetically manufactured. What are the benefits? |
Cetyl Esters function as an emollient and skin conditioning agent. They contribute to softening and smoothing the skin's surface by forming a lightweight, non-greasy film that helps reduce transepidermal water loss, thereby supporting the skin's moisture barrier.

How do we use it? |
Cetyl Esters are used in our Nourishing Lip Balm for their emollient properties and are a key reason why our balms become soft, instead of melting, when exposed to heat.
