What Is It? |
Olive squalane is a remarkable emollient derived from olives. It is a stable, saturated hydrocarbon that is very similar to squalene, a lipid that is a natural component of our skin's sebum. Your skin naturally produces squalene to lubricate and protect itself. However, as we age, our body's natural production of squalene declines. To create a stable ingredient suitable for cosmetic products, the squalene from olives is hydrogenated, converting it into squalane.
This hydrogenation process makes squalane resistant to oxidation, giving it a long shelf life and ensuring it remains effective without becoming rancid. Vertical Divider

What are the benefits? |
Squalane's similarity to the natural lipids in our skin allows it to absorb beautifully without a greasy or heavy feeling. When applied topically, it acts as an excellent emollient to moisturize and soften the skin. It forms a gentle, protective barrier on the skin's surface, which helps to reduce moisture loss, keeping your skin hydrated and supple. By mimicking the skin's own oils, squalane can support the health of the skin barrier, and its lightweight nature also makes it an ideal carrier for other beneficial ingredients, helping them penetrate the skin more effectively.
